Winter stays in sleek and chic Miami Beach -- where the weather is sublime while other parts of the country are freezing -- will unsurprisingly cost you a small fortune. But if you can swing a trip during the fall shoulder season, there’s a significant dip in hotel prices that makes a comfortable escape more manageable. Case in point: Special rates as low as $119 per night at Villa Bagatelle, a new French-inspired boutique hotel open since the spring.

In winter, rooms at this property can start at $389 per night for weekends in February. But for upcoming weeks, guests can enjoy nightly Fall Special rates of $119 for weekdays in late September, and prices between $159 and $179 for most weekdays further into the season. Even the weekends are a solid deal: For the first weekend in October, the special rate is $239; for the first weekend in November, it's $279.

So what exactly do these prices get you? The rooms are more like suite-sized apartments with kitchenettes. The rooftop pool is decked out with cabanas and a hip rotating art exhibit (currently featuring graffiti artist Richard "Richie" Mirando). Afternoon tea and cocktails are served in the Bagatelle Garden; for heartier meals, Bistrot Bagatelle -- which has outposts in NYC, Sao Paulo, St. Tropez, and other destinations -- serves up dishes with local and French-Mediterranean influences. But perhaps best of all is the location. The hotel is across the street from the Bass Museum of Art, and just one block away form the beach.
